General Manager: Communications & Stakeholder Relations

AfricaBio is an independent, non-profit, member-based biotechnology stakeholder association. It was established in 1999 to provide accurate information and raise awareness about biotechnology and biosafety in South Africa and other African countries. AfricaBio is a leading policy advocacy organization with national, regional and international outlook. AfricaBio seeks to appoint a GM: Stakeholder Relations & Communications to direct and manage the communications activities of AfricaBio; manage local and international stakeholders of AfricaBio and advocate, position and promote the awareness of AfricaBio’s offerings as a key biotechnology stakeholder association in South Africa and beyond. The position reports to the CEO.

Skills Required
Stakeholder Relations & Public Affairs: To develop, implement and maintain a valuable stakeholder engagement strategies for AfricaBio, including informing, consulting and involving stakeholders, locally and internationally. To manage the measurement of stakeholder satisfaction with AfricaBio and implement strategies for continually improving stakeholder satisfaction across all the sectors of the association. To coordinate communication of information with all stakeholders of AfricaBio such as policy makers, international partners, parliamentarians and other professional bodies. Media & Publishing: To maintain AfricaBio’s social media tools in order to grow their impact and visibility.Oversee the production of all AfricaBio publications such as press releases, adverts, newsletters, brochures, annual reports, members’ publications. Build relations with key industry media. Develop and maintain a proactive publications plan including small media (community radio stations, in non-traditional media channels). Events, Functions and Conferences: Responsible for strategic development, planning and coordination of all AfricaBio events by managing all aspects of events delivery. Ensure the implementation of Biotech Indaba seminars, forums and conferences. Manage and implement stakeholder enhancement and engagement projects. Training & education: Develop, implement and manage AfricaBio’s training services as a business model. Oversee the development of training & education material.

Qualifications Required
The Ideal candidate must, inter alia, have a Postgraduate qualification in communications / public affairs, stakeholder management skills, experience in strategy monitoring, senior management experience with ExCo interactions, and must demonstrate an understanding of the biotechnology sector.
